报告英文简介:

UHMWPE (ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene) fiber is a type of high-performance organic fiber made from ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene by the gel-spinning method. It has the highest specific modulus and strength of all commercial reinforcing fibers due to its excellent tensile modulus and low density. UHMWPE fiber is a promising reinforced fibers in FRP(Fiber Reinforced Plastic) materials. However, this application remains limited due to low axial and transverse compressive strength of the UHMWPE fiber, compression yield strength of high strength UHMWPE is around 1% of the tensile strength.The nano-carbon materials, including carbon nanotube(CNT), vapor grown carbon fibers(VGCF), grapheme and so on. It is well-known that those materials have exceptional excellent mechanical properties. In this study, we developed the innovative process to coating VGCF and CNTs to UHMWPE fibers by pyrrole vapor deposition. Pyrrole is one of the volatile organics, in the case of oxidation, would be easily oxidized into polypyrrole, which is a kind of important conductive polymer. This technology has advantages combined excellent mechanical strength of nano-carbon materials and cladding ability of PPy, Nano-particles coated UHMWPE fibers were prepared to improve the compression modulus of fiber. Beside, with the new type of micro compression testing machine, the UHMWPE fiber and coating fibers compression experiment were conducted, the experimental results are used to estimate the transverse elastic Young’s modulus through the development of a formula, and the results indicated that nano-particles coated UHMWPE fibers transverse compressive modulus has been improved.
